Adolescents and juvenile offense: considerations on the performance of Social Workers

O presente artigo se propõe a refletir sobre a atuação do assistente social junto a adolescentes reconhecidos comumente como: criminosos, delinquentes, infratores, antissociais, em conflito com a lei e contemporaneamente denominados autores de ato infracional. Busca-se oferecer algumas considerações destinadas à análise crítica do contexto no qual se inscreve esta atuação, ao longo da história da profissão, mas, sobretudo, no contexto atual no qual a perspectiva de garantia e de promoção de direitos, inscrita no Estatuto da Criança e do Adolescente e nos preceitos ético-político profissionais, é tensionada pelo viés punitivo-criminal direcionado a adolescentes pobres, compreendidos como sujeitos da violência.

Title: Adolescents and juvenile offense: considerations on the performance of Social Workers

This article aims to reflect on the role of social workers with adolescents commonly recognized as criminals, juvenile offenders, adolescents with antisocial behaviour, in conflict with the law and contemporarily called ‘authors of juvenile offenses’. The aim of this paper is to offer some considerations and critical analysis about the context in which the role of the social worker is inscribed along the history of the profession. But especially in the current context in which the perspective of safeguarding and promoting rights, prescribed in the Child and Adolescent Statute and in the ethical and political principles of the profession is tensioned by punitive criminal-bias directed at poor adolescents, understood as subjects of violence.
