Na presente abordagem, memória social é compreendida como representação do passado, ou seja, trata-se de significados construídos socialmente que, pelo viés social, foram arrastados no decorrer da história. Evidentemente, tais representações foram construídas sob determinadas condições concretas e, como tal, carregam - no decorrer de uma história em curso – componentes ideológicos elaborados em total vinculação dialética à concreticidade das relações sociais. Logo, para compreender a prática social de homens e mulheres históricos, é imprescindível considerar o mundo de significados socialmente e historicamente construídos.
