Neglect in Childhood: A Reflection on the (Dis)protection of Children and Families

O objetivo do artigo é contribuir para o debate a respeito da negligência familiar na infância. Com base nas dimensões de classe e gênero, reflete sobre a interpretação do fenômeno nas famílias. Trata-se de uma pesquisa bibliográfica, a partir do estado da arte de uma pesquisa prévia sobre a negligência na infância e relações familiares. Realizar uma análise acerca deste tema requer um olhar mais amplo, que inclua o espectro da (des)proteção, evitando as nomeações, ou os rótulos sintéticos que recaem sobre certos tipos de família e, no interior dela, sobre a mulher. No entanto, é imperativo considerar que a vivência de negligências, especialmente na infância, pode desencadear graves consequências para a saúde e para o desenvolvimento psicossocial das crianças.

Title: Neglect in Childhood: A Reflection on the (Dis)protection of Children and Families

The objective of this article is to contribute to the debate about family neglect in childhood. Based on the dimensions of class and gender, it reflects on the interpretation of the phenomenon in families. It is a bibliographical research, from the state of the art of a previous research about neglect in childhood and family relations. Carrying out an analysis on this topic requires a broader look, including the specter of (dis)protection, avoiding appointments, or the synthetic labels that fall on certain types of family and, within it, on women. However, it is imperative to consider that negligence, especially in childhood, can have serious consequences for the health and psychosocial development of children.
