The Brazilian political scenarios, achievements and challenges for public health policies in the context of HIV / AIDS, and STI’s prevention and treatment

Considerando que a Constituição Federal de 1988 representa um marco para o rearranjo dos papéis do governo federal e suas unidades subnacionais no âmbito da formulação de políticas públicas, o objetivo deste artigo é evidenciar as principais conquistas no decorrer das últimas três décadas, e refletir sobre os possíveis desafios dos setores públicos envolvidos, no que tange a formulação e gestão de políticas de saúde na prevenção e tratamento ao vírus HIV e IST’s, frente ao atual cenário sociopolítico brasileiro. Reflexões preliminares indicam que algumas conquistas no âmbito das políticas públicas de saúde contra a epidemia de HIV/AIDS e algumas IST’s podem sofrer retrocessos, aspectos que serão problematizados no decorrer deste trabalho

Title: The Brazilian political scenarios, achievements and challenges for public health policies in the context of HIV / AIDS, and STI’s prevention and treatment

Considering that the 1988 Federal Constitution represents a milestone for the rearrangement of the roles of the federal government and its subnational units in the formulation of public policies, the objective of this article is to highlight the main achievements over the last three decades, and to reflect on the possible challenges of the public sectors involved, regarding the formulation and management of health policies in the prevention and treatment of HIV and STIs, against the current Brazilian sociopolitical scenario. Preliminary reflections indicate that some achievements in public health policies against the HIV / AIDS epidemic and some STIs may suffer setbacks, aspects that will be problematized in the course of this work.
