Migrant-Children in Brazil: silenced voices and unprotected subjects

Recentemente o número de crianças que cruzam fronteiras internacionais e buscam refúgio cresceu significativamente tornando-se parte importante desse fenômeno contemporâneo que modifica e molda nosso cotidiano. Na tentativa de explorar essa realidade global da migração infantil, este artigo pretende analisar as rachaduras dos dispositivos de direitos da criança, expondo os dilemas e ambiguidades das políticas de proteção durante a solicitação de refúgio. Ao ‘movermos’ a criança para o centro do debate podemos problematizar a perda de agência política a partir de práticas de silenciamento e invisibilidade de um sistema que insiste em ignorar sua presença e negar sua participação./SPAN>

Recently the number of children crossing international borders and seeking refuge has grown significantly becoming an important part of this contemporary phenomenon that modifies and shapes our daily lives. In an attempt to explore this global reality of child migration, this article aims to analyze the gaps of child rights, exposing the dilemmas and ambiguities of protection policies in eligibility processes for asylum-seekers. By ‘moving’ the child to the center of the debate we can problematize the loss of political agency through the silencing and invisibility practices of a system that insists on ignoring their presence and denying their participation.
