O artigo discute as repercussões do fenômeno da violência no campo da saúde mental, a partir de uma breve e não sistemática revisão da literatura brasileira sobre o tema. Propõe-se uma agenda para este debate, que leve em conta as dimensões da violência política, violência privada e violência urbana, além da violência presente em algumas formas de institucionalização, e enfrente os desafios que são colocados para o campo da saúde mental e das intervenções psicossociais.

Title: Violence and mental health: the terms of the debate

This article discusses the repercussions of the phenomenon of violence in the field of mental health, starting with a brief and non-systematic revision of Brazilian literature on the subject. The agenda proposed for this debate brings into account the dimensions of political, private, and urban violence, along with forms of violence present in institutionalization, and the subsequent challenges presented to the field of mental health and psychosocial interventions.
